EJ Hill, 1977- (Updated)

Summary

EJ Hill is a 34-year-old [2011] South African Theologian, Independent Nonconformist Christian Apologist, IT Consultant, Martial Artist, Author, and former Charismatic/Pentecostal Pastor, residing in Hermanus South Africa with his beautiful wife, Andrea, and their 3-year-old baby-girl, Mikayla.

Introduction

I was born in Montagu on the 5th of March 1977. The year Elvis died.

I spent the first eight years of my life on a family estate outside Ashton, consisting of Stockwell, Karpad and Waterfall.

In 1985 [2], following a devastating drought, apartheid unrest, and bankruptcy, we settled in Ashton.

It was a difficult time.

From October 1985 to the beginning of 1986 [2] me and my brother, Arno, stayed with the Kriels in Ashton, while our parents relocated to Robertson to start anew. My father, Marius, joined the South African Commandos, and my mother, Rosemary, worked as a private nurse.

In 1986, we were reunited with our parents in Robertson, where I attended Robertson Secondary School, finishing grade 7. For a brief moment in 1991, I also attended Higher Technical School Drostdy (HTS) in Worcester, after which I relocated to Robertson High School (RHS), where I would eventually matriculate. It was also here that my faith first appeared.

Spirituality

At the time, life was filled with questions. Some trivial, some serious, yet others tremendously important. It was these questions that drove me to search for answers (like anyone else). Where did I come from? Did I evolve or were I created? Is there a God? And, if so, Who? Where am I heading? And, for what purpose?

First it was Philosophy and Psychology, and finally World Religions that occupied my time. The days came and went. Weeks and months passed. All without any real and lasting answers. Finally, on Saturday, November 6th, 1993 I had a personal encounter with God which (almost like Spurgeon's) "left [my] heart strangely warmed".

Experience

Christian Ministry

I previously ministered with Evangeliegemeente De Deur Paarl, the first South African branch of Wayman O. Mitchell's Christian Fellowship Churches). After witnessing irregularities, I warned both of my fellow-pastors, Dawie de Kooker and Aden Arendse, of what I perceived as "heavy shepherding".

Following a discussion with Pastor De Kooker, I broke away joining Derek de Bruin's Living Waters Ministries (a former outreach of Philadelphia Christian Church in Robertson) as Labor Evangelist.

In 2001, after completing an "apostolic-charismatic" Bachelor of Arts (B.Th) at Miracle Bible College, I launched a Wholesale Company, previously known as Real$ave Wholesalers, a registered Close Corporation situated in Kraaifontein.

Broadcasting

After leaving the wholesale business, later that year, I moved to Sandbaai (near Hermanus) working as Continuity Presenter for Radio 7 FM, broadcasting on 88.8 and 87.7 FM. [1]

I left Radio 7 at the end of October that same year - again resigning due to irregularities.

Computer Technical

For more than a year I worked as Workshop Manager for Launch Out PC in Hermanus, after which I partnered with SOHO Systems in Vermont, an Information Technology Firm, owned and operated by my brother.

Memberships

Security

I'm a Task Team Member of eBlockWatch (2010-), and a Security Network Administrator with Turn It Around (2010-).

Fraternities

I'm also a registered member of the World Reformed Fellowship [3].

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do you do what you do?

Because, I love people, I love my family, I love my daughter and I love God. My motivations are perhaps best expressed in the words of German Lutheran minister, Martin Niemöller (1892–1984):

"In Germany they came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up." [5|6]

Who are you to judge others?

I'm a Christian who believes what the Bible teaches concerning Christian Judgement.

What is your biggest dream?

To study and/or teach theology full-time, if God permits.

Why don't you?

I'm doing my best with the little free time that I have, raising my daughter, while working two jobs, in an attempt to continue my research and writing.
